    DYNASTS of LYCIA. Perikles. Circa 380-360 BC. AR Stater (23mm, 9.66 g, 3h). Struck circa 380-375 BC. Laureate and draped bust of Perikles facing slightly left / "PERIKLE" in Lycian, warrior, nude but for crested Corinthian helmet, in fighting attitude right, holding sword aloft in right hand, shield on left arm; triskeles to lower right; all within shallow incuse square. Mildenberg, Mithrapata 25 (A15/R20); Podalia 419-25 (A2/P6); Falghera -; SNG Copenhagen Supp. 478 (same obv. die); SNG von Aulock 4252 (same obv. die). EF, even gray tone with golden hues around the devices, typical minor die wear on obverse. Remarkable portrait.


    SICILY, Syracuse. Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. AR Drachm (4.08 g, 7h). Struck circa 410-405 BC. Helmeted head of Athena facing slightly left; four dolphins around / The hero Leukaspis advancing right, holding shield and spear; altar behind; to right, ram lying on its back.     SICILY, Syracuse. Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. AR Hemidrachm (2.03 g, 2h). Struck circa 410-405 BC. Helmeted head of Athena facing slightly left; four dolphins around / Charioteer driving fast quadriga left; above, Nike flying right, crowning charioteer; two dolphins in exergue. SNG ANS 312-313; SNG Lockett 961 (this coin). VF, toned.

    SICILY, Syracuse. Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. Æ Tetras (2.21 g, 6h). Struck circa 390 BC. Head of Arethusa facing slightly left / Octopus. CNS 29; SNG ANS 385-388. Good VF, dark red-brown patina, a little rough.

    THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 400-380 BC. AR Drachm (6.10 gm, 9h). Reverse die signed by Ai-. Head of the nymph Larissa facing slightly left; dolphins flanking neck; [??? on ampyx] / Horse grazing right, AI below belly. Lorber, Early, 16 (same dies); cf. Herrmann Group VII-I; SNG Copenhagen -. Good VF, patch of horn silver on obverse. Extremely rare with dolphins

    SYRIA, Cyrrhestica, Bambyce (later Hieropolis). Abyaty. Circa 340-332 BC. AR Didrachm (8.41 gm, 11h). "[Hadad] and Ateh" in Aramaic, facing female bust, wearing necklace / "Abyaty" in Aramaic, high priest and driver, who hold reins, in quadriga right.     SICILY, Panormos. Punic occupation. Circa 400-390 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.52 gm). Charioteer driving galloping quadriga right , holding kentron in right hand, reins in both; Nike flying left above, crowning charioteer; hippocamp right and Punic "sys" in exergue / Female head left wearing necklace; three dolphins around. Jenkins I 28 (O7/R24); SNG ANS 538 (same obverse die); SNG Lloyd 1583 (same obverse die); SNG Copenhagen -. Beautifully toned EF with underlying luster.

Draped three-quarters facing bust left of Perikles, wearing laurel-wreath; dolphin downward to right / Warrior, nude but for crested Corinthian helmet, fighting to right with shield and sword; Lycian triskeles to upper right, all within incuse square. Podalia 397-401 (A1/P3); SNG von Aulock 4250 (same dies). VF, lightly toned, some striking weakness, broken reverse die.

    SICILY, Syracuse. Time of Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. AR Hemilitron (10mm, 0.35 gm). Struck circa 405-395 BC. Head of Arethusa right, hair bound in ampyx and sphendone / Four-spoked wheel, two dolphins in lower quarters. SNG ANS 303 var. (head left); MMAG List 605 (December 2000), no. 36 (same dies). Toned, good Fine. Scarce. The style of Arethusa on this coin is similar to that of Kimon's hemidrachm (cf. Basel 434).

    Syracuse, Sicily, Æ16, (4.37g) c. 405-400 BC, Compact head [Image] of Arethusa left, wearing necklace and triple-pendant earring, star ornamented on back of stephane. / Star at center of quadripartite incuse square. Choice VF, nice dark patina. Obverse of similar style to some gold double decadrachms, including SNG ANS 319 (signed by Kimon). The master engravers who signed their gold and silver works, also produced dies for fractions and bronze.

    Syracuse, Sicily, AR hemilitron, (0.39g) c. 400 BC, (style similar to that of Kimon?), Head of Arethusa left, hair restrained in back by an open weave sakkos. / Wheel, SY PA and two dolphins in compartments. SNG ANS 301-303. Fine. "The observation that the style of the obverse is similar to the larger silver coins of Kimon is that of the consignor, not the reference books." Note the tight, curly hair of Arethusa, and the open weave sakkos

EGES[TAIWN] Aigestes, the city’s founder, as hunter, standing r. with l. foot upon rock, r. hand resting on hip, l. elbow on knee; he wears a pilos suspended behind the neck, sword hanging from strap around l. shoulder, ankle-booths (cothurni) and chlamys over l. arm; two javelins in l. hand. At his feet, two hounds r. and in field r., ithyphallic herme l., wearing petasus. Rev. Head of the nymph Aigesta facing slightly to r., wearing earring, necklace and ampyx across her forehead, hair flowing loosely; below, SEGESTAIIB. L. Mildenberg, Kimon in the manner of Segesta pl. 10, 13 and pl. 11, 19 (this coin). Bust of young river-god Hipparis, facing three- quarter l., with horns on forehead and hair in long loose curls; a fish downwards on either side. On neck, signature [EYAI]. The whole within border of stylised waves. Rev. KAM - A - RI - NA The nymph Camarina, with head l., dressed in low-necked chiton leaving the breast partly bare and with crossed legs, riding on swan l. over curved waves. Female charioteer, wearing a long, fluttering chiton, and holding a torch in her right hand and the reins in her left, driving a racing quadriga to left; above, Nike flying right to crown the charioteer; in exergue, ear of wheat. Rev. [] Head of Athena facing, slightly inclined to the left, her hair falling in waves, wearing triple-crested helmet adorned with palmettes, and necklace of pendant acorns with an gorgoneion as a central pendant; on bowl of helmet, signature, ; to left and right, two pairs of dolphins, both swimming clockwise.
